PRIVATE RESIDENCE – Mio, Michigan – March 14, 2009

The homeowners called us because they were experiencing escalating activity in their home,
involving their 2-year-old daughter, who was complaining of a “mean old ghost man” growling at
her, forcing her to spend the night at her grandmother’s.

I tried to put a team together immediately but had some members out of town, some were ill.  We
were unable to do the investigation immediately but, because of the sensitivity of the phenomena
and the fact that their baby was being bothered/scared, we decided to gather the team members
we could get together and at least do the initial interview and do a walk-through of the home.  I
made sure she had my cell phone number in case anything scared her or their daughter to the
point they didn’t feel they could stay in the house any longer.  I also asked her to keep a diary of
the activity for the week before we could get there.  We went back with a team the following
weekend to do the actual investigation.

BRIEF HISTORY:
The couple has remodeled their home extensively in the three years they have lived there,
finishing the remodeling in late summer of 2008.  They would experience some phenomena
during the fall each year (beginning about 2 ½ weeks after they moved in), for a couple of
months, then it would die down and they wouldn’t experience it again until the following year.  I
did consider that it possibly could be a residual-type of haunt but the activity wasn’t identical nor
did it happen exactly the same or at the same time each time.  It was similar but not close
enough, and it escalated which is why the homeowners called us.

The home was built before 1946 as a cabin that encompassed the master bedroom, laundry
room, child’s bedroom, bathroom, and part of the living room.  There were no records before
1946 so we do not know how long the cabin was there before the remodeling was done in 1946
to make it the basic home it is now (even though the current owners completely remodeled), or
who occupied the cabin before that time.  Interestingly, most of the activity was reported in the
“old” part of the house, where the cabin would have originally been.  The home has had multiple
owners, but on background search of the home (generously provided by the homeowner), no
one had actually been reported to have died there, although the records only went back as far
as 1946.

Recently, shortly after the remodeling of the home was finished late in the summer of 2008, the
phenomena didn’t die down and, in fact, escalated and we were contacted to come and
investigate.

PHENOMENA REPORTED:
Quite a few episodes of loud banging within the house were reported and the sound of
something moving in the living room on the hardwood floors, as well as the sound of definite foot
steps on the wood floors, but when the house was checked, nothing would be there.  There were
reports, also, of the sound of things falling but again, when the house was checked, nothing
would be out of place.  There was one report of the husband closing the front window curtains,
but when returning to the room minutes later, the wife found them open again.  When they had
their computer in the upstairs living room, along the wall where the child’s bedroom was on the
opposite side of the wall, the computer would turn itself on and off.  Once it was moved to the
basement (which was not there when the house was a cabin), there were no more problems with
it.  The kitchen lights occasionally went on and off by themselves and there was a report of the
upstairs bathroom faucet being turned on.

The below pictures show the kind of light switch that is in the kitchen (a dimmer switch), which I
played with when initially at the house and its not easy to get to work, the switch works hard and
you have to play with it to get it to work.  There is also a picture of the faucet in the bathroom,
which is new and tight fitting and has to be turned/twisted, not lifted up and down.  I played with
this as well and there is no way it could move because of air in the lines, etc.  Again, the faucet
handles don’t move that easily.  The faucet is fairly new and the handles are snug.

Probably the most unsettling of the homeowner’s complaints were those of their little 2-year-old
daughter.  For the two weeks or so before the homeowners called us, their daughter had been
waking them up in the middle of the night, afraid to sleep in her bedroom.  She complained of  a
“mean old ghost man” waking her, growling at her, poking at her, and also said the “nice ghost
lady” would read to her and keep her safe from the mean old man.  When asked what he looked
like, she said he had a beard to the floor.  She reported seeing this man in multiple spots around
the house, namely in the area of the original cabin.  When she was upset and her mother would
sing gospel songs to her to comfort her, the baby would shake her head and say “no mommy,”
that the old man didn’t like it.  On occasion, when the baby was gotten up in the mornings, her
clothes would be strung all over the room.  One day, when the mother was taking the baby to the
basement, the baby stopped her and pointed to a wall saying the old man didn’t want her to go
down there.  The wall where she pointed was at one end of the living room and was not there
when the original cabin was there, the entire room including basement stairs would have been
the original great room/living room.  In the master bedroom, the wife as well as two other people
had experienced a grey shadow moving out of the corner of their eyes, never full on.  Once, this
shadow appeared as a grey person, the rest of the time it appeared as a grey shadow ball with
movement.

Because most of my team was indisposed the first weekend we went to the house for a walk-
through, I had the homeowner keep a “diary” of activity for the week before we got out there for
the investigation.  This is what she found:

Sunday night: 1:45 a.m. Child came in and was scared.
Monday night: 2:45 a.m. Child had nightmare and was scared.
Tuesday: nothing reported.  Child slept through the night.
Wednesday: nothing reported.
Thursday night: 2:45 a.m. Something fell but nothing was found to have fallen.
Friday:  nothing reported.

EQUIPMENT USED:
Hi8 Sony camcorder; digital camera; analog audio recorder; digital audio recorder; KII EMF
meter; Sperry EMF meter; thermocouple; laser level.

METER READINGS:
Baseline readings were 0.0 to 0.1, even around the appliances and the fuse box so even minor
hits on the EMF were interesting.  On the initial walk-through of the house, the weekend before
the actual investigation, Kathy got a single slight elevation on the Sperry of 1.1, which then
moved and disappeared, and went back to baseline of 0.1.  Because the phenomena seemed to
point to an energy of some sort trying to draw attention from the homeowners, we took the KII to
use in an attempt to communicate and got some amazing results.  Strangely, though, the KII
would not match the Sperry.  Whereas the KII would go to red, the Sperry would remain baseline,
yet they would be sitting side by side.   Because we had so many hits on the KII (often seemingly
in response to our questions) I am going to list them here by time and location (these will be
cross-referenced with the EVPs we received after the meter reading section).  Also, here are the
actual readings according to light color for the KII:

Dark green:          0 to 1.5
Light green:        1.5 to 2.5
Yellow:        2.5 to 10
Orange:        10 to 20
Red:                20+

8:38 p.m.        Master bedroom.  All base readings normal on all meters.  Temp at 82
degrees, EMF readings at 0.1.  First EVP session begun.
8:47 p.m.        Master bedroom.  Thermocouple readings went down to 76 degrees but
could have been because we turned the fan off that was on the floor, maybe it
was more to move warm air in than to cool the room off.
Nothing unusual noted.  EVP session continued.
9:05 p.m.        KII lit up to green
9:11 p.m.        KII lit up to yellow.  Three taps were felt and heard on the chair I was
sitting in, in response to me asking if someone was there, could they tap
something to show they were there.
9:20 p.m.        KII lit up to yellow, then one minute later lit up to red.  The first hit was in
response to me asking how they would feel if I were to tell them that
they were not to touch the child, speak to the child, scare her in any way,
for appear to her visibly.  The last hit was in response to me asking them
to light up the meter again and, if they did, we would leave the room.  They
lit it up to red, so we kept our promise and moved to the kitchen.
9:27 p.m.        Several spikes on the KII shortly after we set the KII meter down on the
counter.  We used the Sperry to check the entire area and even the
appliances were very low on the readings.  The stovetop was next to where
we left the KII and where I was standing right next to it, but it had a
flat base reading consistently.  Because we had just moved into the kitchen at
this point, we weren’t paying much attention to the KII and had not started
the EVP session in that room yet, but strangely as soon as we would look
away, the KII would go nuts, then when we stared at it waiting for a
response, it would be dead.  We would look away and sure enough, it
would spike again.  The Sperry remained constant at baseline.

9:38 p.m.        KII lit up to red during questioning, then lit up to yellow, then back to
green baseline.  We continued to get everything set up to sit in the
living room including the laser level because the child reported seeing the
old man in the living room area several times so we figured we might pick up
          movement.
9:40 p.m.        Heard clicking noises that started out softly but continued to get
sharper and louder.  Figured out it was the light bulbs in the ceiling fans (two of
them) in the living room.  Once we got set up and went dark again, the
lights were hot enough that, when cooling down, clicked.

9:46 p.m.        KII lit up to green.  No other meters measured abnormalities.

10:08 p.m.      The living room was so quiet and we only had that one hit on the
KII, everything else was flat, no abnormal noises, so we moved into the child’s
room.  Set the KII on the bed on top of a lifesize doll that the mother said
went off a couple of times on its own.  On our initial interview, I had her
show me the doll and when I couldn’t get the doll to go off, she took it and
shook it quite hard, then it went off.  Just vibration with bumping the doll
or walking past the chair it was on was not enough to make it go off.  I
have no explanation for how it would go off when no one was in the room.
We left the Hi8 focused on the bed with the doll and KII meter and just
had quiet time, trying to observe in the dark any noises or movement.

10:15 p.m.      Began a short EVP session in the child’s room.  KII was flat and there was
no movement or strange noises.  The room felt completely comfortable.
10:27 p.m.      Decided to move into the kitchen and do some EVPs since we were
getting nothing on any of our meters in the child’s bedroom.  We initially
set the equipment on the kitchen counter and were getting the Hi8 set up
and putting some of the other stuff away that we had left on the counter.
The KII wasn’t moved, and it was steady at green like normal, then we
noticed it was showing occasional hits, like someone was playing with it.
We used the Sperry and, without moving the KII, once again started
reading anything that was near the KII just to rule out any other
interference.  The Sperry was flat at 0.1, even when the KII was spiking.
Here is a rundown of how the hits on the KII went:
10:27:            Two slight hits to yellow.
10:28:            Lit up to red.
         Lit up to orange.
10:29:            Lit up to red.
10:30:            Lit up to red.
10:35:            Lit up to red.
10:37:           Bounced around but lit up to red several times.
Heard a creaking by the back door.
10:40:           Took a couple of pictures with the digital camera near the
back door where we heard the creaking sound.  The KII lit
up to red when we took the picture, then lit up to orange.

10:44:           Lit up to orange, then light green.
Lit up to red three times in a row.
10:47:           Lit up to orange twice.
10:48:           Lit up to red several times consecutively.
10:52:           Lit up to red again, then seemed to quiet down.
11:05 p.m.    Went back to the master bedroom and did quiet time with all meters
(Sperry, KII, thermocouple) and recorders (Hi8, digital, audio).   Temp
        held steady at 75 degrees.
11:18 p.m.    All three of us saw a light grayish colored light sweep from the area of
the door to the master bedroom across to the closet wall and then
disappear. All meters stayed at baseline.

VIDEO:         All of these videos are KII hits as answers to questions asked.

AUDIO:
We had a lot of EVPs come up on digital.  Our analog actually stopped working during this
investigation, I don’t think it was anything paranormal.  We put new batteries in thinking it was just
that, but it still wouldn’t work, so we relied solely on the digital recorders and couldn’t have been
more satisfied, the sound was excellent.  Here are a list of the EVPs that we found with captions
explaining what time they were found and what was going on at the time.  Most of them
correspond to or around the time of the KII hits above.

PICTURES:
There were no abnormalities found on still pictures taken with the digital camera.

PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS:
None of us felt particularly spooked or uneasy, except when we were standing in the kitchen
getting all the KII hits and then the creaking by the back door, but was more our minds playing
tricks on us.  No one felt threatened or particularly scared.  We did have one instance where the
door to the child’s bedroom was thought to have been pulled shut, but when we went back to that
room later, it was open.  That could have been investigator error though.  We have nothing on
video to prove it opened on its own.  Nothing appeared to move on its own, or appear out of
place at any point during the investigation.  I, myself, at  one point, felt something touching my
face and I kept running my hand over my face, but there was never anything there, although we
got a weird EVP in which we heard nothing at the time.  We had many, many unexplained sounds
show up on digital audio later that we never heard during the investigation, some sounded like
multiple people whispering at once, but we could not make out what was being said or even if
they were actually voices, so we did not include those on the site, however if anyone would like to
hear them, we would be glad to post them.

SUMMARY:
It would be hard to dismiss all the KII hits and EVPs we found on this investigation.  It was
astounding to say the least.  We are unsure who would still be lingering in this home, but we feel
there is at least one, possibly two energies still housed at this location.  We have been invited
back and look forward to reinvestigating with every intention of finding out whose energy is still
lingering at this location and why.  We couldn’t have asked for better homeowners, they were so
helpful and interested in our findings.
CASE FILE #:  2009-1

We had just walked from the master bedroom to the kitchen.
One of the investigators kept feeling something touching my
face, this is what we caught. EVP sounds like a burp, then you
can hear the buzz from the camera lens opening.

This Uh-huh is a response to me asking if they could make the
KII Meter go off again.

This was in response to me asking them to "make the KII go off
and we'll go into the little girls room." You will hear a long pause,
then a faint OK. This was about 9:43.

You'll hear one of start to laugh, and then you'll hear a screeching
sound, and then another one of us laugh again. We don't know
what this sound is; it could be laughing. This was at about
10:06:30.

Underneath the investigators voices, you will hear the same
screeching sound as the above EVP. We still cannot tell what this
is. This was at about 10:07.
This EVP was caught on both the Analog and the Digital Audio
Recorders. This is the digital recording of a voice mocking one of
our
investigors when she said "little girls room." The EVP says "girls
room." This was about 10:10.

Recorders. This is the analog recording of a voice mocking one of

About 30 seconds into quiet time, this EVP was caught. We think it is
saying "why." This was about 10:11.

The investigator said there is a tape recorder; l if there is anything
they wanted to say. Then  it sounds like there are two taps on the
tape recorder. This was at about 10:41.

First you'll hear what sounds like a door latch and the investigator
saying that the noise sounded like a door opening. This was at about
11:58, nearing the end of the investigation.

The first Uh-huh you hear is me, and the second quieter one
seems to be mocking me.

At the very beginning of this segment, you will hear what we think
is an elderly voice saying "use the matchstick." This EVP didn't
match anything we were saying or doing. We were in the child's
room. It was about 10:06.

The KII lit up and after we state the time 9:46, there is a pause
and then a faint "hi."
