THE BROWN LADY
This is one of the best and most famous of ghost photos of all time.
It is said to be of Lady Dorothy Townshend (formerly Walpole), wife of
Charles Townshend in the early 1700s.  Charles was 2nd Viscount of
Raynham Hall in Norfolk England.  Supposedly , Lady Townshend had
an affair with Lord Wharton, a notorious rake, and when Charles found
out about it, it is said that he faked her funeral while locking her up in a
remote area of the house until her death many years later, not even
allowing her to see her children.  She has since been spotted in different
rooms and halls in the house but mainly haunts the oak staircase, where
this photo was taken 9/19/1936 by Captain Provand and Indre Shira of
Country Life magazine.  They were taking pictures of the interior of the
house and had just photographed the oak staircase when Shira saw a
misty form ascending the stairs and shouted for Provand to quickly take
another photo.  He did and this is the resulting picture.  It was first
published on 12/19/1936, after undergoing tests by chemists and experts
and found to be authentic and untampered with.
