| AGENT/FOCAL PERSON: Living person at the site of a haunting, some are witnesses, others are “agents” to poltergeist activity or the cause of the phenomena, sometimes entities are attached to an “agent.” APPARITION: Are usually residual hauntings and appear as a human image or the image of an object, most often referred to as a ghost. Several types of apparitions: * Crisis apparition: ghosts that appear to loved ones and close friends just before or after their death. * Collective apparition: ghost sighting simultaneously by more than one living person. * Family apparition: ghosts that haunt one particular family; their appearance usually means that someone within the family is about to die. * Reciprocal apparition: an experience where both the ghost and the agent see and react to each other. * Photographic apparition: ghosts and spirits that you cannot see but appear in photos after theyre developed. * Atmospheric apparition: a visual imprint of people and events that was left behind in the environment that continues to replay (residual). * Transportation apparition: appearance of ghostly cars, ships, trains, trucks, bikes, carriages, planes and anything else that can carry people. They haunt the scene of their previous routes. PARANORMAL: Any event/activity that defies current scientific explanation; anything above the explanation of normal scientific finding. SPIRIT GUIDE/CONTROL: a person who acts as a medium’s connection with the next world. EARTHBOUND: a ghost or spirit that is unable to cross over at the time of death. Some theorists maintain that many spirits make the decision to stay behind by choice while others are too confused or frightened because of sudden death or suicide. ECTOPLASM: it was believed to be a vapor produced by spiritualists and exuded from every orifice in their body while holding a séance; today it is believed to be either a solid, liquid or vaporous substance produced by ghosts or spirits. VOICE PHENOMENA: When a disembodied voice is captured in several different ways: *(electronic) EVP: voices and sounds that are alleged to be from the dead, captured by electronic mediums on tape or digitally. *(direct) DVP: voice of ghost spoken to the sitter of a séance; not the same as a voice spoken thru a medium during a séance. May come from near the medium but not thru him/her. *(radio) RVP: voice of a spirit or ghost spoken through a radio (usually with white noise). ELEMENTALS: spiritualists described angry/malicious spirits as elementals; term also used to describe “earth spirits” identifiable to fire, earth, air and water. |
| GHOST/EARTH LIGHTS: strange balls or patches of light that appear randomly in specific locations, often for an extended period of time but which have no explanation, possibly related to earthquakes, fault lines, railroad tracks or water, but are still a mystery. WRAITH: a ghost or spirit that comes back to avenge its own death; seen to be an omen of impending death. ORBS: round, opaque lights that are captured on film and believed to be the beginning form of spirit activity, as it tries to build energy to appear. Most photographic “orbs” are false positives, either moisture, dust, et cetera. DOWSING: paranormal detection of underground water or mineral deposits (also lost persons or objects) using a divining rod or pendulum. GRAY LADY: ghost of a woman who has died at the hands of a lover or waits for the return of a loved one. HAUNTING/TIME SLIP: a continuous manifestation of supernatural/inexplicable phenomena associated with the presence of ghosts or spirits attached to a specific location. May appear as physical apparitions, sights, sounds, smells or cold areas. May continue for years or may last only a brief period of time. LUMINOUS PHENOMENA: experience of strange lights or glows, often around objects or people. PARAPSYCHOLOGY: scientific study of unusual events associated with the human experience and PSI subjects (unknown factors responsible for a variety of paranormal phenomena). AUTOMATIC WRITING: method of spirit communication where the medium allows a spirit to control their hand and write a message. BANSHEE: omen of death that attaches to a family. DEMATERIALIZATION: sudden disappearance of an apparition that was in full view. EXORSISM: ritual tom force demons or evil spirits out of a person, home or location. LEVITATION: when physical objects raise without assistance. PSYCHIC: a person who is abnormally sensitive to sights and sounds that are beyond what is considered to be normal. PSYCHOKINESIS (PK): ability to move objects with the mind – is called “mind over matter” SÉANCE: when a group of people sit in a circle with a psychic medium, attempting to use their collective energy to communicate with spirits. SPIRITUALISM: belief that there is life after death and communication between the living and the dead takes place. AMULET: abject (crystal, cross, etc.) believed to have the power to ward off evil. ASTRAL BODY: a persons soul that’s been projected outside their body. |

| ASTRAL PROJECTION/TRAVEL: belief that someone’s soul can separate itself from the body and travel though other places in different dimensions remaining anchored to their physical body by a “sliver cord.” CRYPTOZOOLOGY: realm of the paranormal that includes mystical creatures(bigfoot, etc.). see section on homepage. BANISHING: ceremony to force an invisible presence from a location, either as a spiritual cleansing or the closing of a magical rite to release the powers being used. CLEANSING: blessing and clearing of unwanted presence’s at a certain location in which a person walks around the location saying prayers. Sometimes other agents are used such as holy water/oil, blessed salt, burning sage and/or incense. DOPPERGANGER: german term for a persons double, thought to be a form of astral travel. GOLDEN ROD: a bright white or yellowish streak, or line, that shows up in photos taken at a haunted location. INCUBUS: demonic entity that sexually assaults females. SUCCUBUS: demonic entity that sexually assaults males. INFESTATION: another term for haunting; persistent paranormal activity in one location. LEPKE: a ghost that appears as a solid person, may interact with real people then simply disappears into thin air. |

CLAIRVOYANCE: a ”sensitive” who can “see” (either internally or externally) present of future events. EXTRA SENSORY (ESP): 6th sense – the ability to acquire information by means beyond the normal 5 senses. FALSE AWAKENING: when a person believes they have woken up but are actually still asleep. FOCAL PERSON/AGENT: person who is at the center of poltergeist activity. HYPNOTISM: an induced trance. LUCID DREAMS: dream in which the person doesn’t know they are dreaming. NECROMANCER: person who raises the dead and commands spirits to obtain information about the future. SUPER ESP: unlimited ESP. OUIJA BOARDS: was invented as a game but has become a tool used to communicate with spirits. consists of a flat board with letters and numbers on it as well as a plancette on which tho players place their fingers. the plancette moves by spirit energy in response to questions asked. *please be aware that this is a very dangerous form of spirit communication and we do not recommend it. |
